14 Nov Working on the implementation of a parking in the Favàritx area
During 2018, the Consell Insular de Menorca has put into operation the public transport line L43 (between Maó and Favàritx) to guarantee public access around Favàritx within the S’Albufera des Grau Natural Park.
The service ran from June 1 to October 31 with three periods: from June 1 to June 14 with six departures in each direction per day; from June 15 to September 15 with thirteen departures in each direction per day; and from September 16 to October 31, with six departures in each direction per day.
The number of users of this regular transport line between Maó and Favàrtix wasof 22,419 travelers from June to October .
The implementation of this line of regular public transport has allowed access to an area of high environmental and protected value within the Natural Park of S’Albufera des Grau both with guarantees of accessibility and preservation of the protected natural environment.
It should be remembered that the Favàritx area has never had regulated car parkings, adjusted to the law. In addition, as the road is not delimited between dry wall, as the influx of cars in the area increased, they were generating uncontrolled parking areas on private land, on the margins of the access road to the lighthouse. This irregular situation has been tolerated for years by the different competent administrations, until in recent years an unsustainable situation has been reached.
It will be the Master Plan for Use and Management (PRUG), currently pending to be approved and that should have been approved in 2005 by the Balearic Government, which will allow to establish regulated areas for parking facilities within the S ‘Albufera des Grau Natural Park.
Given the uncertainty of the date of approval of the PRUG by the Balearic Government, and in order to have a regular parking area as soon as possible, the Department of Mobility of the Consell Insular de Menorca has requested in October to the City Council of Maó the need to declare as a general interest matter the implemention of a parking for 200 cars in one of the permitted zones contemplated in the PRUG pending to be approved.
